As with most award shows, fashion is a hot topic. This year may be a little less colorful than past shows, however, as many stars are reportedly planning to wear black to protest gender and racial inequality, so get ready for a red-carpet blackout. Time’s Up pins, meant to represent the sexual harassment prevention initiative launched this week by some of Hollywood’s leading women, will also pop up on the carpet. Reese Witherspoon asked costume designer and stylist Arianne Phillips to design the pin during a private meeting last month, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Critics’ Choice Movie and TV Awards will be handed out on Jan. 11, 2018, during a two-hour ceremony at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California that will air live on the CW Network beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET. This is the 23rd year that the 300 plus members of the Broadcast Film Critics Assn. have handed out prizes while it is the eighth time that their counterparts in the Broadcast Television Journalists Assn. have done so.

On the film front, “The Shape of Water” leads with a whopping 14 nominations including Best Picture, Best Director (Guillermo del Toro), and Best Actress (Sally Hawkins). There was a four-way tie for second place as “Call Me by Your Name,” “Dunkirk,” “Lady Bird,” and “The Post” each picked up eight nominations. Scroll down to see the full list of contenders in every category.

On the TV side, awards powerhouse Netflix leads with 20 nominations, with four of those for their new comedy “GLOW.” HBO is next in line with 15, thanks in part to “Big Little Lies” and its five bids. And FX, has 13 including six for “Feud: Bette and Joan” and five for “Fargo.”

This year’s crop of contenders features a nice mix of new shows like “American Gods,” “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “GLOW,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “Patriot” facing off against returning favorites like “Game of Thrones,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “Black-ish” and “Modern Family.” Only six shows contend in the Best Drama Series and Best Comedy Series categories, down from seven at the past few ceremonies.
